Betty K was born in Georgetown Guyana, a former British colony located on the northern coast of South America. After pursuing an undergraduate degree at McGill University in Montreal, she then went on to study medicine at the Royal College of Surgeons in Dublin, Ireland. After residing in many countries such as England, Ireland, Trinidad and Guyana, Dr. Betty K decided to settle in Canada. During her academic tenure, she often frequented the Caribbean collecting precious island recipes through her travels. Not only did Dr. Betty K practice medicine for almost two decades, but she also published a best-selling Caribbean cookbook, selling over 10,000 copies in Canada. One special thing she recalled from her journey through the islands was the peoples’ love of plantain chips. This love grew to what is known today as Betty K Foods.

Betty K Foods has grown substantially over the past few years to include other delicious island snacks such as cassava chips, dried nuts, channa, tamarind balls, sugar cakes, chocolate fudge, hot sauces and other specialty items. The hard work and commitment of the fine staff that come in day in and day out ensure that love, care and passion is put into every bite.
